Boat Legal surveyors are IIMS and/or YDSA accredited. The IIMS is the international body which sets standards and training for marine surveyors, from small craft to supertankers. The YDSA is the  is the UK benchmark for professional standards of marine surveying for yachts and smaller craft. Both organizations apply rigorous requirements for full membership, assessing professional competence over several years.

Need a pre purchase check - but not a full survey? You might have a shortlist of possible boats and would like a professional eye cast over them to clarify certain points. We can arrange this to suit at a special hourly rate and will pass on a discount of 10% off any subsequent survey.

Specialist surveys:
By centrally managing our operations, we are able to provide the widest range of expertise at the the most competitive rates available - see the table below. Our surveyors are also field specialists with individual expertise across a wide range:our south coast surveyor Peter Wallis, IIMS, YDSA (our central south coast surveyor) is an MCA coding surveyor as well Class and Tonnage surveys. Peter is also widely experienced in Multihulls (class specialist for the Dragonfly); steel and wooden boat construction and of course, the more common GRP vessels. Graham Whittington MIIMS, MIMEST  is our Marine Engineering specialist, and has developed surveying specialisms in Ferro and working vessels alongside traditional motor and sailing yachts.Christopher Green LLB MIIMS, is the legal specialist for Boat Legal. Legal surveying services include expert witness statements and evidence collation for arbitration; insurance and litigation.

Marine engine & mechanical surveys - our marine engine specialist Graham Whitington is a qualified marine engineer (and accredited IIMS surveyor) with over 30 years experience of everything from large TSDY motor yachts and fishing vessels to compact inboard or outboard auxiliary configurations. Compression testing, performance analysis, transmission and gearbox reports are available as part of a normal survey, or as an individual report.

Small boat surveys - The wide experience base available means you get a surveyor with experience in the type of craft for which you need a survey - whatever the construction type, hull material, size or class. So whether you are buying a classic wooden sloop, a GRP multi-hull, or  a motor yacht you will have a surveyor with the credentials for the job and experience of the type of vessel being surveyed.

Customer service -
Our clients are  important and we will go the extra mile to deliver the highest standard of professional service in the time scale you require, at the most competitive rate.
